Hello everyone, I went on an inspection trip to San Pedro, so I’d like to share a report along with a photo tour of the town. It was cloudy that day, so the sea doesn’t look as beautiful in the pictures, but in reality, it’s much more stunning.
About San Pedro
San Pedro is Belize’s largest island, located 1 hour and 20 minutes by water taxi from Belize City, and about 30 minutes from Caye Caulker. The coastline is lined with luxurious hotels and is bustling with tourists enjoying their vacations. San Pedro also has many chic restaurants and souvenir shops, giving it a relaxed atmosphere.
Introduction to San Pedro
1. Transportation
To get to San Pedro, you have two options: take a water taxi from Belize City or fly from the airport. This time, I opted for the water taxi because I wanted to see the ocean and feel the sea breeze. The return trip coincided with sunset, and the sun reflecting on the sea was beautiful. The unique blue of the Belizean sea made me realize it’s my favorite sea in the world. The water taxi stops at Caye Caulker on the way to San Pedro, so be careful not to get off there by mistake.
2. Cityscape
There are very few cars in San Pedro; people mainly get around by golf cart. Many tourists also rent golf carts to move around the town. The buildings are colorful, and some have murals on their walls.
3. Amigos del Mar
I visited this dive shop for some business. This shop has been featured in the Japanese magazine DIVER. Although it was the end of the dry season with strong winds and rough waves, making it difficult for boats to go out, they proudly talked about how Belizean waters are the best in the world. The staff is friendly, so feel free to chat with them if you dive with this shop!

4. Belize Chocolate Company
I tried the sea salt caramel and coffee truffle chocolates. After walking in the heat, the chocolate was exquisite. The shop also sells various cacao products. They offer drinks like cocoa and coffee, which I definitely want to try next time.

5. San Pedro Artisans Market
This market sells handmade jewelry, ornaments, paintings, and more created by Belizeans. I found it amusing that they had a baby sleeping right in the middle of the store. The items, such as bowls made from Belize’s national tree, mahogany, and necklaces made from shells, were all beautiful.
6. Belizean Arts
As the name suggests, this shop mainly sells paintings. Colorful art pieces were on display. It was refreshing to see a store selling paintings in this way, which is rare in Japan.
7. Food
There were various restaurants along the beach. I had lunch at Lily’s Treasure Chest, which offers a great sea view. I ordered Belize’s staple dish, rice and beans. I’ve had it many times since coming to Belize, and each place has a slightly different taste, all very delicious. You can’t find this dish in Japan, so be sure to try it when you visit Belize. Once you try it, you’ll be hooked! Additionally, there are stalls around the water taxi terminal, and you can find vendors selling fruit outdoors here and there. Be sure to try the local food.
