BELIZE CITY

Belize City is the largest city in the Central American country of Belize and is the country’s principal port and its financial and industrial hub. Several cruise ships drop anchor outside the port and are tended by local citizens. The city is served by Philip S. W. Gold son International Airport, which is the largest and busiest in the country.

Belizean people speak English; Kriol that language emerged from the contact of English landowners and their West African slaves to ensure basic communication, and often Spanish, while learning the English system of writing and reading in schools.
