Taking a journey into the Mayan underworld at Actun Tunichil Muknal, or the “Cave of the Stone Sepulchre”,will be one of the most enlightening, epic, and unique experiences of your life. Recently deemed the #1 Sacred Cave destination in the world by National Geographic, the ATM cave is not only beautiful geologically, with its crystalline stalactites and stalagmites, but also historically, as is a natural museum of ancient Mayan artifacts, as well as a sacred burial place.
First take a 2 1/2 hour drive and enjoy the natial scenery from Belize City to San Ignacio. Here we take another 1 hour drive to enter the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve. From this point on you are on foot, hiking through the jungle for approximately 45 minutes to the entrance of the cave.
The hike includes three stream crossings. To access the cave, you will need to swim across a small spring-fed pool with the assistance of a rope and wade into knee-high water into the dark underworld of the cave that allows us access to the extensive underground maze of tunnels, passageways and chambers, climaxing in the ceremonial chamber housing stoneware, ceramics and the famed crystallized skeleton of the “Crystal Maiden”.
This tour is about 3 hours in the cave under the instruction of our experienced guides.
Highlight
ATM was used from 700 to 900 A.D. and discovered by British military in 1980s. After surveys and researches, it was opened to the public in 2000s. You can see many untouched excavated articles.

On this fully guided tour around historic Belize City, where you will enjoy this educational tour to visit several locations. Such as the ancient swing bridge over Haulover Creek, then we head through busy downtown streets of the city to the Anglican cathedral in Central America, St. John’s Cathedral built from bricks used as ballast in sailing ships of old. Directly across the street, you, will visit Government House, once home to the colonial Governors and now a museum. As we make our way through the city, we will be making 5 stops:
Museum of Belize (Previously the Old Belize City Prison) Baron Bliss Lighthouse and The Belize Sign St. John’s Church Old Government House (Now the House of Culture) Downtown Belize City (Albert Street Shopping Central) Throughout the tour, guests will have the opportunity to take pictures, buy souvenirs, eat the local cuisine and meet local fruit/food vendors. Enter the exciting world of rivers disappearing into the underworld as you float on inner tubes with only your headlamp to light your way.
Our adventure begins from Belize City with a 1 hour drive to the location, then after you arrive and change cloths, you then start with a hike through the jungle trail; then jump on your tube and feel the excitement as you feel the rush of cool water as you meander down small rapids taking you through a series of remarkable limestone caves.
Float past underground waterfalls then into the crystal cathedral, a spiritual center to the ancient Mayas. On this journey, you will also be viewing sparkling cave formations stalagmites jutting from the river and stalactites looming from above. and learn about cave geology and the rich Mayan history. To make it a truly fun experience you can also jump into a refreshing, crystallized blue waters formed in-between cave entrances.
Note: You must be at least 40 inches (101.6cm) tall to go on the cave tubing tour.
Highlight
Mountain Pine Ridge has a waterfall of 30 meters and its downstream has some natural pools and glittering crystal caves. It’s very thrilling to go tubing in the dark cave.
There are only a few places in the world where the elusive manatee are found. One of those places is in Belize. Start the day by making our way to Swallow Caye where we will see the endangered West Indian Manatee in their natural habitat from the boat. (No swimming with the Manatee).
Then head on to Goff’s Caye where sand and coral surround this mysterious island to snorkel the reef, thereafter have lunch and after pull out your beach towels and relax under the swaying coconut palms on the pristine white beaches.
