Unto the Great Deep Blue Hole…Would you dare to dive it?
I accompanied a pair newlyweds couple who came to Belize on their Honeymoon! The husband loves to dive! His wife is currently getting her diving license. The main purpose of them coming to Belize was to dive at the Great Blue Hole. Belize’s Blue hole is famous as you are able to see it on a aerial tour.
Did you know that originally, blue holes was actually land! When doing the dive, you can see the terrain where the limestone caves sink into the ocean. It is a famous place for divers.
So, blue hole diving, it is the start!
By the day before, I moved to the city called San Pedro and stayed. Before the rising sun rises to the skew bar center. The morning of blue hole diving is quick anyway. We ate fresh watermelon, pineapple and bread while waiting.
Sufficient time to prepare the equipment and the mind.
Voyage to the Blue Hole! Anyhow, the shake of the ship is not half end. . . Sickness stop medicine is essential. . .
Arrive to Blue Hole!
Looking closely at the Blue Hole, Unlike the blue hole seen from the sky, Too large a circle is large, it is quite difficult to pay it in the picture. The deep blues are so powerful that they learn the fear of sucking in.
What is a blue hole?
About 1.8 million years ago, due to the effects of earthquakes and volcanoes, A dome shaped huge limestone cave was formed in the ground and a stalactite was completed. After that, the ceiling part of the space collapses due to the crustal deformation such as the erosion of the ground part and the earthquake, A large hole with a diameter of 300 meters and a depth of 200 meters has been made.
About 10,000 years ago, the end of the Ice Age, sea water increased, The limestone cave on the ground was sunk in the sea and became a blue hole. Therefore, the diving of a submarine cave blue hall formed over tremendous years,
It is deeper than anywhere, blue, and you can feel the testimony of the earth.
The First Dive -Blue Hole
Now, it is time for our blue hole dive! Our dive instructor name was Mr. Roy, who just happened to be the same person that assisted me with my own dive three years ago!
Each time I return to the ocean, i feel awestruck and amazed. Even though I feel like this, I still ensure that I conduct the proper checks before the dive. Such as the Depth, schedule, signature etc, carefully confirmed.
To the blue hole! Take care!
Everyone returned to the ship!
I asked my newlyweds about their impressions. “The depth of diving was 43 meters. About 20 meters from around, the neighborhood became dark, the water became very cold. Although it is warm on the ground, I was surprised at the cold underwater. And a lot of stalactite was seen! My teacher guided me and I was able to go to the limestone cave spot as well! It was my first time to see the topography, It was my first experience deep so much, so it was a valuable experience! ” And that! After all, unique to the Blue Hall, it’s diving! Jealous! I also want to do it! Lol
The Second Dive – Half Moon Caye
The second diving start! We will dive here up to 22 meters deep. This time, while diving you can see colorful fish, plenty of sharks and turtles.
Picnic Lunch – Half Moon Caye
Already, I can see why Belize is worthy of the word “paradise”. The local Belizean food we had was Rice and Beans , Stewed Chicken and Potato Salad. It feels so sensational having the sea breeze caress our skins while we eat our lunch. .
The Third Dive – Long Caye
In the diving spot called Long Caye, the third diving start! The dive is 22 meters deep.
When I asked the couple, if they were feeling tired, they replied “I’m going to go and enter the water! After all, the Caribbean Sea is so nice. ”
Diving Tour ends!
Every has worked hard today and I assume very tired, Thank you for your hard work! It will now take two and a half hours to return to San Pedro. As usual, going back you can feel the shaking of the boat, which is always amazing, but everyone is tired and sleepy and don’t mind it at all.
Senior citizen American diver, who is 69 years old was doing the dive with no shirt. He began diving when he was 50 years old and now it has been 20 years. He was excited that he came to fulfill his dream by diving in The Great Blue Hole. When I asked, “Are you not cold?” His reply, “Cold!, I want to feel it (the water) on my own skin” What a unbelievable answer! Amazing!
If you want to experience this amazing diving in one of the deepest and bluest part of the Caribbean sea and also witness the beautiful ocean scenery of Belize.
